What is Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy, also known as speech-language therapy or speech-language pathology, is a specialized form of therapy aimed at diagnosing, evaluating, and treating individuals with communication and swallowing disorders. Speech therapists, or speech-language pathologists (SLPs), work with people of all ages, from infants to adults, who may have difficulties with speech, language, voice, fluency, or swallowing.

During speech therapy sessions, SLPs use a variety of techniques and activities tailored to the individual's needs. These may include exercises, games, role-playing, modeling, and computer-based programs. Therapy can take place in individual or group settings, and sessions are often structured to include practice and reinforcement of newly acquired skills.
